V. AGRICULTURE, LIVESTOCK AND FISHERY
Agriculture
Area
Sown and Harvested and Production of Crops
Table 5.01 shows classification of area by land. Data on area sown,
harvested, irrigated and production of crops are shown in table
5.02 through 5.07. Data relating to the whole country comprising
seven States and seven Divisions are obtained from the Department
of Settlement and Land Records.
Gross area sown is the total area cultivated during the year, including
areas under double or triple cropping.
Net area is the total area utilized for cultivation, counting once
for all land under cropping.
Sown area is the area actually planted during the year while area
destroyed is the area which is destroyed either by flood or other
catastrophes during the year.
Harvested area is the area which is obtained by subtracting area
destroyed from area sown.
Irrigated area is shown by type of irrigation as well as by type
of crops sown.
Production data are actual yields from harvested area.
Sown Area of Annual and Perennial Crops Substituting for Opium
Poppy in Border Area
Statistics shown in table 5.08 are received from the Myanma Agriculture
Service and the office of the Work Committee for the Development
of Border Area and National Races. The data show sown acreage of
annual crops and perennial crops substituting for opium poppy in
border areas.
Utilization of Fertilizers and Pesticides and Distribution of
Quality Seeds
Table 5.09 and 5.10 show utilization of fertilizers and pesticides
respectively, in cultivation of various crops, while table 5.11
provides information on distribution of quality seeds to the agriculturists
by the government.
Agricultural Loans
Statistics on agricultural loans are obtained from the Myanma Agricultural
Development Bank.
Table 5.12 shows seasonal loans from the government by kind of crop
while Table 5.13 shows short-term and long-term lending to the farmers
by kind of purpose.
Agricultural Equipment
Data shown in the table 5.14 is extracted from the Season and Crop
Report of the Settlement and Land Records Department.
Prices of Agricultural Produce at Harvest Time
Prices shown in table 5.15 at harvest time are collected from the
Myanma Agriculture Service, Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation,
which obtains the data from its State and Divisional offices. Prices
of paddy, rubber, sugarcane, cotton and jute are government procurement
prices while those of other agricultural produce are market prices
prevailing at harvest time.
Livestock and Fishery
Meat and Fish Supply in Yangon
Data on meat supply and statistics on chicken and duck are obtained
from the Yangon City Development Committee.
Data on fish production shown in the table 5.16 are obtained from
the Department of Fisheries.
Livestock Breeding and Production
of Meat and Fresh Milk
Livestock breeding and production of meat and fresh milk data are
compiled on the basis of financial year ending 31 March. Livestock
breeding data shown in the table 5.17 represent opening stock existing
at the beginning of each financial year. Production of meat , milk
and egg is shown in table 5.18.
Production of Fish and
Prawn
Production of fish and prawn by nature of catch are shown in the table
5.19 and by State and Division in the table 5.20.
Fish
Ponds and Leased Fisheries
Statistics on fish ponds, leased fisheries and distribution of fingerlings
handled by the Department of Fisheries are shown in Table 5.21 through
5.22.
Pearls and Shell Production
Statistics on pearls and shell production described in the table 5.23
are collected from the Myanma Pearl Enterprise. The information relates
to the Government undertaking and joint venture enterprises.
Production of Honey and By-products
The data shown in the table 5.24 contain only honey and by-products
produced by the Bee Keeping Department.
Animal Health
Services by the Livestock Breeding and Veterinary Department.
Animal Health Services by the Livestock Breeding and Veterinary Department
can be divided by dosages of vaccination and dosages of treatment.
Statistics on dosages of vaccination and dosages of treatment for
cattle, pig and fowl are shown in table 5.25.
Fishing
Vessel ( Off-shore ), Fishing Vessel (In-shore) and Fishing Gear.
Data on fishing vessel, off-shore and in-shore and fishing gear are
shown in table 5.26. Data from 1994-95 to 2001-2002 include all sectors,
including private sector.
